WHAT IS THE GREAT SPORTS RACE?

The Great Sports Race is an annual family friendly race being conducted in various NFL cities that is aimed increasing the health and fitness levels of area youth and adults, in a fun and invigorating outdoor environment.  Patterned after the show, The Amazing Race, teams of two people (kids, adults or mixture of both) race against other teams around a 2k (1 mile ) cross country course that includes up to 8 fun-filled stations. The clues provided in each station directs the teams to perform a task, either together or by a single member. All tasks are related in some manner to sports. The team that completes the tasks and reaches the finish line with the fastest overall time is declared the winner!

The race is for everyone – boys and girls – beginners, intermediates, advance - walkers and runners - pee wees to adults – as some tasks are slightly modified to ensure fairness and safety of all involved. Past races have included tasks such as running bases blindfolded, dribbling two soccer balls through obstacle course, kicking a football, chipping onto green, casting fishing rods, word find with binoculars, to name a few. Racers should be prepared to get a little dirty and wet - it's part of the fun! Whatever the weather, the race goes on!

The overall goal of the race is to encourage families to engage in physical activity each day: a total of 60 minutes for kids, 30 minutes for adults, as stated in Michelle Obama's Let's Move and NFL Play 60 initiatives. The course layout is spectator friendly, to encourage family and friends to come cheer on our fierce competitors. Admission is free of charge.

RACE AWARDS:  The race and division winners (determined by grade of elder team member) will be presented at the main stage at 3:30 pm. (Pee Wee Division: Grades 1-3,  Juniors Division: Grades 4-6, Varsity Division: Grades 7-9 , Open Division: Grades 10 & above including Adult Teams, Family Division: Adult / Kid Combo Teams, Walker Division).
